This Hanzo Steel sword with all-black tactical styling is from Ronin Katana and it features the bat; silent, agile and most supreme of night hunters. The all-black titanium-coated blade was differentially-tempered in the traditional manner with clay to produce a hardened edge of dull-resistant steel and a shock-absorbing core for durability and resilience.  A close inspection of the blade reveals the wave-like hamon that denotes the hardened edge of the katana.

The bat Tsuba is crafted from blackened iron and the fuchi and kashira are blackened metal. The wooden grip has panels of blackened genuine rayskin which is bound in black cotton ito cord. The sword is paired with a black lacquered wooden saya scabbard which is finished with a black cotton sageo cord. Included is a cloth sword bag.

Kult of Athena Ronin Katana Hanzo Steel Black Bat Review

1 review for Ronin Katana – Hanzo Steel – Clay Tempered Black Bat Themed Katana Model #5

    1. Katanate (verified owner)

It’s good. My biggest complaint is the lack of quality control with the saya; it feels rushed. The katana doesn’t fit snugly into the saya (sheath); it just slides out like there’s nothing holding it in there. Also, there is a white dust that keeps covering my blade every time I pull it out of the katana. I’m hoping it goes away after a while because it’s going to stink showing this to people, and their first sight of it is going to be covered in white powder from inside the saya.

Now here are the good parts: it cuts extremely well. I was able to cut cleanly through 3 plastic bottles, one of which didn’t even fall over. I don’t have anything to base this off of as this is my first katana, but I would rate the blade itself as being extremely well made. The handle is very pleasing to the eye and feels good to hold. It has a good weight to it and can definitely cause some damage. Overall, it’s a good sword, but for being just under the $300 price point (over $300 after shipping and tax), I would appreciate some more care in the construction of the blade and its sheath.
