Ronin Katana: Italian Arming Sword Review and Destruction

Good looking and well-finished arming sword I recently purchased this sword and was surprised by how nice it is for the money. It’s tight and has no rattles. Fit and finish is above average. It’s finished far better than I imagined. It seems somewhat heavy but that’s my only complaint. I don’t cut with my swords so can’t comment on cutting performance. It’s a great sword for the money and looks as if it costs more than it did.

Pleasantly surprised. Solid construction. Great fit and finish. Comes sharp with a piercing, needle point. Great blade geometry with a gradual, continuous taper. Distal tapered also. Balance is about 5 inches up from the hilt and the resonant cutting edge is right where the fuller ends. Comes with a typical scabbard for the price range. I don’t have a ton of swords, but because of its balance, weight, blade geometry and sharpness, this has now become my go-to combat blade (if ever such a thing was needed).

As others have stated, it is a lovely sword. Everything seems tight with no noticeable blade scratches or weird bevels. Money well spent.

      Cheers again KoA!

This is the first sword i have bought and overall i have a pretty mixed feeling about it.

The sword itself is basically exactly what i expected for the price range.
All the fittings are tight and the grip is comfortable, the point of balance is a little far forward for me but not unreasonable.
The blade itself is perfectly straight but is offset by about 2 degrees compared to the hilt, almost unnoticeable but definitely there.

The scabbard however i am not impressed with, the sword sits extremely loosely in it and slides out easily, even holding it slightly down is enough for it to slide out.
The glue in it is also not properly done and every time you sheath and unsheathe the sword streaks and flecks of glue cover it. This may improve with time but i am not impressed. The belt that comes with it is also not ideal although not a big problem.

Overall I’d say the sword itself is around a 4.5 star rating (For the price range), and the scabbard is a 1.5

I really like this sword, that being said I have 2 issues with it that can be delt with. First is the stock grip not a fan , Im planing one rewrapping it. Next is the scabbard I’m doing away with the suspension system. Aside from those 2 issues this is a great sword for the price especially if you want an arming sword that can double as a hand and a half sword.
