Dragon Kings Sea Wave Wakizashi is a stylistic match for the Sea Wave Katana or a fine and fetching sword on its own. Its highly detailed fittings depict the roiling waves of the ocean and this is thematically matched in the wave-like hamon of the blade and the rippled patterning that belies a blade of folded steel.

The blade is high carbon steel and its deep and long bo-hi groove lightens the blade to create a swift and eminently responsible Wakizashi. The blade was differentially tempered to imbue it with a hardened edge of 60 HRc hardness and a softer, shock-absorbing body of 40 HRc.

The antiqued tsuba, fuchi and kashira are silvered with detailing picked out in brass and choice blackening for contrast. The hardwood grip is inlaid with genuine rayskin and finished with a fitted and tightly bound wrap of dark blue ito cord. Silver and gold wave menuki are fitted beneath the knotted ito folds.

The saya scabbard of wood is lacquered in a deep dark blue to match the sword and has a kurigata and koiguchi of carved and polished buffalo horn. A sageo of blue and contrasting white complete the sword. Included is a cloth sword bag.
Please Note: The last photo shows this sword paired with its companion sword which is also available from Dragon King. This additional sword is not included.

Just received this today along with it’s bigger Katana brother and they are beautiful, very well made, very sharp, excellent presentation. The shipping was awesome, very quick and packaged very well.

The first time i saw this ‘Sea Wave’ theme done on a Katana i was immediately hooked so i started saving up and finally i made the purchase of the Katana first and then the Wakizashi to complete the Daisho, both the Katana and the Wakizashi are Assembled Very well, they feel sturdy in the Hands and are so nicely Balanced that they almost feel Weightless, Swift to Maneuver and the Bo-Hi makes a loud Tachikaze (sword wind or Sword Swish) when Swung , sometimes even Echoing sound when swung indoors with the right amount of Power and Alignment.
The Blade is a Combination of Two different types of steel done in a Honsanmai Configuration due to which the Presence of a beautiful ‘itame’ style Hada is noted on the Ji and the Mune. There is a Roughened Texture on the Mune Beginning just before the Yokote and continuing to the end of Kissaki which i believe is the Polisher’s Mark.
The ‘Notare’ Style Hamon is just magical to look at, when brought close to the eyes and moved right to left (or vice versa) gave me the Feeling of standing at the Beach and observing the Waves Rolling in, Hence the name ‘Sea Wave’ fits just right with the Katana&Wakizashi.
The Fuchi, Kashira and Tsuba are put together so good that there is not even the Slightest space inbetween ,no Sharp edges or uneven Protrusions, im sure they’re not made of iron since they’re not magnetic but neither can i tell if its Silvered brass so im not sure of the material used but the quality is superb , you can make out the individual lines between the Wavy patterns.
The Tsuka is in ‘imogata’ Style and has Genuine Rayskin Panels with mostly small and a few Emperor Nodules, the Tsuka is Wrapped Tight with Cotton ito of Dark Blue color in the ‘Hineri-Maki’ Fashion with Most of the Diamonds being Symmetric and Hishigami (Folded paper Triangles under the ito) is present.
The Saya is Dark Blue with Gloss Lacquer finish Having Horn Kurigata , Koiguchi and Kojiri, shitodome (eyelet openings on the Kurigata) are Glued in and the Sageo is the same color as the ito which dosent look bad but a Blue and white Sageo (as Depicted) would have looked much better.
The only couple points of Critique i have are with the Saya and the Polishing job.
Neither the Katana nor the Wakizashi are held firmly by the Koiguchi in their respective Saya allowing the blades to simply slide out when held upside down and the Katana rattles around in its saya when shaken.
Both Swords have so much to see in them when it comes to the Metallurgic effects if only was the polish done to a Finer grade it would have been fit for the Price point.
