The Katzbalger by Tod Cutler is a masterful recreation of  the iconic sidearms of the Landsknecht mercenaries, whose flamboyant dress and formidable skill dominated the battlefields of the late 15th and early 16th centuries. This distinctive sword with a 26 inch blade features a fullered lenticular blade with a rounded spatulate tip. It is expertly forged and formed to capture the balance of cutting power, durability and agility that made the original so celebrated and achieves it with a balance just 3 inches above the guard.

Its steel ‘S’-shaped guard offers elegant hand protection while lending the blade its instantly recognizable silhouette. The guard is quite thick and well capable of receiving heavy blows from larger weapons in the tight confines of a pike and halberd block. The black horn grip flows seamlessly into a steel fishtail pommel providing both visual harmony and secure handling. The full length tang construction ensures enduring strength and stability.

Accompanied by a wood-cored leather scabbard finished with a brass chape and traditional leather suspension, the Katzbalger is presented as it would have been carried in its heyday, near horizontal at the hip. Whether displayed as part of a collection, studied for historical appreciation, or used in reenactment, this sword exemplifies the artistry, practicality, and martial character of one of the German Renaissance’s most iconic weapons.
