The Ottoman Kilij is a sword that is famed for its ferocious cutting ability, able to capably sever limbs and bone with a swift strike made this sword a feared blade by foes of the Ottomans and their elite Janissary Corps. Slightly shorter bladed Kilij with even wider cutting tips and exaggerated yelman are sometimes called a “Pala” sword and this recreation by Windlass is one such example. Like its forebears the blade is geometrically optimized for cutting deeply and cleanly through a target. The blade is well-tempered 1070 high carbon steel which has been sharpened not only on its prime cutting edge above the ricasso, but also along the long Yelman (false edge) to allow for back cuts.

The embellished guard with the characteristic almond shaped “siperlik” quillons is well-cast from quality polished brass and with Ottoman floral motif decor. The grip is carved from fine hardwood polished to a smooth finish terminating in a classic “Kabza Basi” back-curved head. The sword comes with a thick and stiff leather scabbard complete with finely polished brass hardware and hanging rings.
