Introducing the Signature Series by Windlass! All-time favorites, reissued by Windlass Steelcrafts® with several upgrades! This new series re-issue of the St. Michael Sword has been crafted with improved blade steel, more attention to distal taper in the blade, a better grip wrap and is completed with a wood core scabbard – a solid upgrade over the previous versions all-leather version.

The well tempered blade is sharpened on a single edge and is more responsive and agile in the hand with the improved distal taper which has thinned the blade tip to improve balance and its ability to cut, whilst leaving the base thicker for durability. The guard and pommel are crafted from steel and the wooden grip is bound in leather which was wet-wrapped around the grip and overwrapped in cord. When dry, the cord was unwrapped to leave a textured cord impression that gives and improved grip for its bearer. To complete the upgrades for this sword, a wood-core scabbard which is bound in leather and capped with a steel locket and chape.

The falchion, frequently depicted in period artwork, was likely a popular sword during the medieval and early Renaissance era even though few examples survive today. One notable depiction of these swords can be found in a 15th-century painting by Piero della Francesca, which shows St. Michael slaying a dragon and is housed in the Florence Museum. Often mistakenly perceived as a heavy and clumsy weapon suitable only for brutish infantry, historical falchions were actually well-balanced and swift and optimized for fast and swift slices and cuts rather than brutish hacking and were wielded by a diverse range of individuals across the medieval social spectrum. Many surviving examples are intricately decorated, suggesting they were owned by men of considerable wealth.
