This version of the Hurum Viking Sword has a thick blade with blunted edges intended for sport and stage combat. The blade edges are at least 2 mm thick all around. The crossguard and pommel are crafted from mild steel and the wooden grip is wrapped in leather cord.

The scabbard is crafted from carved wood and tightly fitted with a skin of leather and completed with a steel chape tip and a wooden suspension loop.

The Viking method of pairing the sword with the large circular shield makes for a great fighting combination. Both sword and shield can be used defensively and offensively. The shield is no mere passive defense, but it is used to deny entire angles of attack and the rim can be used to force open a foes defense or push his own shield away to open a path for the sword. Whilst the sword is best used offensively, it can certainly deflect an opposing weapon when needed.

The one I received left a lot to be desired, though for the price point I can only complain but so much. The pommel and cross guard were off center and the weight of the sword makes it hardly useable for stage combat not to mention difficult to control or even use for much longer than half an hour (unless you have the forearm strength of a grizzly bear). I would recommend a different sword if you plan on using it for extended use in the ring.

Overall, it’s a good looking sword with very few practical uses aside from strength training for a good price.
