Cold Steel - Hunting Sword
This Hunting Sword (or Hanger) from Cold Steel has a sharpened blade forged from 1055 high carbon steel. The guard and pommel are steel and plated with nickel-silver and the grip is carved and polished rosewood embellished with nickel-silver pins. The sword is paired with a leather scabbard which is fitted with a chape and locket of plated nickel-silver to match the sword hilt.
Hunting swords and Hangers were popular in the 16th and 17th centuries; the cutlass-like blade was a highly efficient cutter for dispatching wounded game and their general usability and cutting performance made them popular with infantry and naval officers alike. Most of these swords were individually crafted to the tastes and budget of the individual and ornamentation could vary greatly from rustic examples used by huntsmen to ones similar to this Cold Steel example which would have been the prestige of a hunting nobleman or military official.
