Classic Tiger Katana

This Hanwei Tiger Katana is a reissue of one of Hanweis classic Katana and great care was taken to reproduce the dimensions and details of the original production runs of this iconic sword from Hanwei. The blade is forged from folded K120C Powder Steel and the folding of the blade is evident in the tight Hada grain patterning seen on the blade when one inspects it closely. The blade was differentially-tempered in the traditional clay tempering method and finished with a quality polish.

The tsuba is made from iron features a hammered textured patterning; on one side is a well-detailed tiger rendered in finely polished brass and on its reverse are bamboo leaves. Th fuchi and kashira are crafted from deeply antiqued brass with picked detailing in polished brass. These fittings, along with the matched kurigata and kojiri fittings on the saya scabbard are all hammer-textured for a unified stylistic theme.

The wooden tsuka grip is crafted from hardwood and is inlaid with panels of genuine rayskin. It is overlaid with well-knotted black Japanese cotton ito to tightly bind the entire grip. The sword is matched with a companion saya scabbard which is carved from wood and finished with a glossy black lacquer which is accented with contrasting leaves of bamboo leaves made from inlaid and polished brass. A black sageo cord completes the sword. Also included is a cloth sword bag and a Hanwei traditional Japanese sword maintenance kit.
