Age of Craft – Wolf Ribs Bascinet Sport Combat Helmet

The Wolf's Ribs helmet from Age of Craft is a particularly robust 14th Century helmet purpose-built for the hard hitting steel-on-steel sport combat of HMB / Buhurt. The head is well-protected in this helmet behind a layered defense of thick steel and internal padding. The dome of the helmet is crafted from well-tempered 30HGSA steel that is approximately 3 mm in thickness (11 Gauge) which tapers to 2 mm in thickness (14 gauge) at the sides. The "Wolf's Ribs" visor bars are quite thick and will give excellent protection to the face while being a minimal obstruction to vision and breathing. The Bascinet visor is non-removable and is securely riveted to the helmet which includes a solidly fitted attachment to the bottom plate which protects the chin and throat. It is obscured by the aventail in the photos, but beneath the top of the aventail there is a steel plate connecting both sides of the helmet which protects the bottom of the face and throat, as well as providing the bottom anchor point for the permanently-attached visor.

The interior of the helmet is well-padded throughout with an internal padded pelerine crafted from tough cotton canvas cloth and is padded on the inside with thick and firm foam. There are two sets of thick leather chin straps with matching steel buckles on the inside to secure the helmet to the head. The colorful heraldric aventail is made from wool which is lined with a softer fabric on the inside and its leather band which connects it to the helmet is attached with thick steel wire. The padded pelerine that lines the inside of the helmet is long enough that it serves as a padded layer beneath the wool aventail. For additional protection, overlapping plates of tempered steel which are 1 mm in thickness are sewn onto the pelerine to protect the shoulders and neck and these are hidden beneath the wool aventail.
