Date Masamune Kabuto Helmet by Paul Chen - Hanwei
This replica of the helmet of famed Daimyo Date Masamune is lavishly detailed and is not only a great centerpiece to a collection - but fully wearable as well! It is crafted from 18 gauge steel with an antiqued charcoal gray finish. The armor plates are articulated in the traditional fashion with thick cotton cords and the helmet is embellished with brass accents.
The Menpo face guard is removable and is completed with a genuine horse hair moustache. The interior of the helmet is padded and lined and Date Masamunes iconic crescent moon crest is made in gleaming brass and is removable. Included with the helmet is a wooden display stand.
One of the most iconic figures in Japanese history, Date Masamune is instantly recognizable by his black armor and the ostentatiously large gold crescent moon crest upon his kabuto helmet. As if these trappings did not make his appearance imposing enough, he had only a single eye which had been lost to smallpox at a young age.

Shop Hanwei Swords, Armor & More
Master sword smith Paul Chen created Hanwei Swords and led the early industry by creating authentic handmade swords of the highest grade steel over the last several decades. A favorite amongst the industry, the original Hanwei factory suffered from a fire and ownership changes. In 2025, the factory closed and original collaborator Frenchie Jin’s forge (Dragon King / Kingston Arms) has taken over, improving and reintroducing past models. The reinvented Hanwei focuses primarily on Japanese and Chinese models, including the Performance Series Katana. Many of the original European models are now adopted as part of the Kingston Arms line.
Often paired together
Good quality metal work and cotton straps but the straps holding the orange chord somewhat crumbled so I can’t wear the face mask but the helmet is fine!! Overall great service but maybe it was sitting around or something corroded the leather retainers for the chord!
