Although the principle weapon of the Greek soldier was the spear, the sword was put to much use as well. This is a fine example of the popular leaf bladed swords of the period. Features a high carbon steel blade, steel guard and pommel and leather wrapped wood grip. Includes a leather covered wood scabbard with brass accents.

Classic Hoplite Sword Just got this Windlass sword from Kult of Athena with their sharpening service. The shipping time seemed very quick, got the sword just 6 days after ordering with sharpening included.
This is the first sword I’ve ever owned, here’s what I like about it so far:
– The pommel shape is smooth and rounded so it doesn’t dig into your wrist while swinging
– The guard isn’t obtrusive but looks nice and seems like it could be functional
– The sword has a good weight to it and is comfortable to hold
– It has a very sturdy feel to it with no shaky parts or wobbly blade
– I haven’t handled many scabbards/sheaths, but this wood cored scabbard feels a lot less cheap than I imagined it would.
The blade fits tightly into the scabbard, and there’s no worry of it falling off the blade.
For the first cutting test, I filled up a 2 liter soda bottle with water. This was really the first time I’d ever swung a sword so I wasn’t really sure what to expect…
I was surprised when it went right through on the first swing. The edge seems sharp enough, yet not so sharp that its fragile.
Considering the fair price and good qualities of this sword, I’m giving it 5/5 stars.
Would definitely buy another Windlass sword from Kult of Athena.
Awesome Xiphos This sword is extremely comfortable to hold and has excellent balance. In the sword I received, the grip is VERY SLIGHTLY off-center in relation to the guard and the blade’s central ridge, but from what I can tell, it doesn’t affect the sword.
Great Sword Lackluster Scabbard I recently picked up this sword after eyeing it for about a year and the sword itself is great. However, the scabbard is pretty meh. I mean it looks nice but the wood core is just cheap pine and would be much better if substituted with oak or any other hardwood really. The fit was disappointing as well. When I first tried getting the sword out it was stuck in there pretty good but now it can practically fall out and is loose. It still gets four stars because the sword itself is very nice and handles exactly as I thought it would. The grip is comfortable and the leather wrap doesn’t seem like it will come undone any time soon and the guard, pommel, and grip are all very secure so really the only downside is the scabbard fit and choice of wood which isn’t the end of the world so I’d recommend this sword to anyone interested in it.
Not just a stabbing sword We did cutting tests with this and found, unexpectedly, it cut as good as the bigger blades. That’s possibly because there’s a curvature in the edge which creates a slicing effect as the hewing cut is made. It stabs like a demon and gods help anyone on the wrong end of this one. The point is also fine enough to get into tiny gaps and then, open them right up with the taper which is a good six inches of piercing power. I dropped it from 5 star to four because, even though this is a finely designed geometry for both cutting and piercing, the cross section of the blade makes it susceptible to getting damaged by hitting steel nails or very hard objects. Like all finely tuned tools, this one needs care and not to be abused. It’s not a beater, but is a weapon for serious slaughter.
