During the Viking age, axe heads like this one were used by craftsmen and carpenters, and for many of the required daily tasks around the homestead.  The story of Tyrker came to mind when this axe was held for the first time – he was the foster father of Leif Eriksson, accompanying Leif on his voyage to Vinland. It was said that Tyrker was a master of many crafts including woodworking and building. A talented figure like himself would certainly have valued the usefulness and versatility of this axe.

The Snikkar Axe Head is based on Petersen Type D axe finds from throughout Scandinavia and England. The weight and shape of this axe make it well suited to a variety of tasks like splitting kindling and felling small trees. This axe is an absolute must for every living historian out there. You will be amazed at how useful it is and will want to keep it close at hand. The axehead is crafted from durable and robust high carbon steel with a tempered hardness of about 52 HRc and is ready to be mounted to your own axe haft.

    1. Mike

This is the first Markland axe i bought. Hafted it and took it to use in my viking age group. It cut any wood it hit, nailed in tent stakes. It looks like a copy from grave finds. Im impressed by how the edge holds up. I bought more from him after seeing this in action. I can not recommend it enough
