Overview
Kingston Arms - Bastard Sword with Antiqued Finish - 2026
New and Improved!
Kingston Arms has reissued the classic Hanwei Bastard Sword with all the features that made it a great sword but took the opportunity to bring key improvements. Keeping with their promise for upgrades and advancement, the crisp and clean new look of the guard and pommel comes from the retooling of this classic design that will remind you of the early originals.
The Kingston Arms Bastard Sword is a battle-ready, hand-and-a-half medieval sword forged from resilient 1566 high carbon steel, boasting a 38.75-inch blade and a total weight of 3 lbs 15 oz for agile, versatile handling. Crafted with an antique patina finish and a peened pommel, it closely replicates the appearance of a historical original.
Now produced at the Dragon King Forge by Hanwei’s original artisans under the guidance of Frenchie Jin, this sword features a retooled steel guard and pommel full of sharp detail which is paired with a lacquered wood scabbard fitted with matching patinated steel chape and throat. The full-tang blade, tapering from a 1.94-inch guard base to a 0.95-inch tip, is forged from 1566 steel known for its spring-like resilience and edge retention, secured by a peened pommel to eliminate weak points—making it lighter and more responsive than swords. A leather-wrapped grip ensures a firm, sweat-resistant hold. With a well-balanced 5.5-inch point of balance, this sharp blade excels in cutting and thrusting drills and is perfect for test cutting on tatami or synthetic targets.
