Overview

Fabri Armorum - Katzbalger

Please Note: Grip leather color can vary from light brown, to dark brown or fully black

This Katzbalger is tough, dependable and ready to take and dish out the hardest hits in a form optimized for heavy armored sport combat or frenetic stage combat. Like historical originals, this famed sidearm of the Landsknecht mercenaries was designed for fighting in the close quarters combat between tight formations of men armed with pikes, halberds and swords. The wide and short blade is optimized for durability and giving more mass in the blade to give the sword a dominating presence in the parry and bind - its shorter length keeps it from getting entangled among a hedgehog mass of pole weapons. The large S-Guard quillons are visibly overbuilt compared to many other swords, but this is entirely deliberate and ensures that the sword can take glancing impacts from heavier and powerful polearms or large swords and continue to protect the hand reliably.

The nearly 24″ blade has thick, rebated edges to optimize its resilience for blade-to-blade combat and a wide, spatulate tip for safety. The hilt components are crafted from tough steel. The grip is wrapped in spiraled black leather to complete the sword.
