The APOC Survival Odachi reimagines the traditional Japanese odachi with sleek and modern tactical lines and bringing all the benefits of modern metallurgy and material innovation, all bearing the unmistakable touch of design and efficiency that is the trademark of Gus Trim. Nicknamed by Gus as the "Little Tigress" during its original production, this particularly large tactical katana is able to take on all-comers with ease. Gus Trim’s subtle yet perfected design philosophy, combining the aesthetic of a classic Japanese blade with tactical utility is fully manifested in this sword where its heft allows it to deliver devastating blows, while its lightweight construction ensures maneuverability.
The Odachi features a 30-inch blade crafted with Gus Trim’s signature profiling, delivering precise cuts and slices. The full-tang, 11.5-inch G10 handle is seamlessly contoured, with flush handle slabs, rivets, and blade profile, ensuring a smooth, glove-free grip for any situation. A hooked guard prevents finger slippage onto the blade edge, enhancing safety during thrusting maneuvers. At 43 inches overall and weighing 2 pounds 13 ounces, the Odachi strikes a balance—robust enough for powerful strikes yet light enough for agile retreats.
The black textured fiberglass sheath is paired with a Molle-compatible Kydex platform, offering versatile carry options for belt or pack mounting. The platform includes four 1.375-inch-long, 0.125-inch-wide slots for secure attachment. A drainage hole in the scabbard ensures functionality in wet environments, while a handle notch and platform design enable stealth unsheathing and secure locking for inverted maneuvers. My first sword. Never even swung one before this. Put up some milk containers and could cut clean through them, taking small slices off each time.
Handle feels really good. The G10 material is extremely pleasing. Actually chose this because I really don’t see the point of doing the old school cloth/rayskin. Plus fishing practices are brutal and catching rays for rayskin seems a little barbaric this day in age. Not that I actually know much about it, tbh.
Blade? I wish the edge was a little more sloped? Meaning, the edge is meant to chop wood and withstand some punishment. Don’t think its meant to be a paper cutter edge to slice cleanly through softer targets. But it holds up. That youtube guy was hacking off small tree branches and didn’t seem like it damaged the blade much.
Scabbard is beat more too. I like it a lot. Pretty please overall with this purchase. First sword, seems pretty bomb proof to me.
