Italo-Norman Medieval Helm – 16 Gauge Steel – Lord of Battles – Blemished Grade – DISCONTINUED

This Sicilio-Norman Helm is crafted from 16 gauge steel; the interior of the helm is blackened and fitted with a leather suspension liner that can be adjusted to comfortably seat the helm. A leather chinstrap with an adjustable brass buckle is integrated with the helm.

Domed helms with a riveted faceplate are associated with the knights of Sicily and Southern Italy after its conquest by Norman Knights in the 11th and 12th century. Piece by piece, they appropriated the land from its former owners, the Emirate of Sicily and the Byzantine Empire. From these newly established fiefdoms in Sicily would come some of the most prominent Crusaders of the 1st Crusade and well-known warriors of that fighting contingent, most notably Bohemond of Taranto, would establish the Crusader Kingdom of Antioch.

Although at a frontal glance this type of helm looks like an early great helm, it is rather a domed helm that has swapped the common nasal bar of the time for the greater protection of a comprehensive mask. The increased protection not only guards against missiles and blows, but also protects more of the face from the possible splintering of a lance in the thunderous cavalry charge favored by the Norman Knights.
