Overview

Silver and Gold Claymore by Marto

The impressively embellished Silver and Gold Claymore is artfully handcrafted by Marto of Spain and is one of the very few classic Scottish two-handed sword with an ornate presentation that optimizes it to be focal point of a Highland collection or display. The broad, double-edged blade is complemented by an elaborately decorated hilt finished in silver and gold style accenting, creating a striking display piece with the commanding presence expected from one of Scotland’s most iconic swords. Intricate detailing throughout the guard, grip, and pommel gives this replica an unmistakably ceremonial character while showcasing the craftsmanship for which Marto is known.

The blade is crafted from practical stainless steel which is finished to a gleaming mirror polish and intricately etched on both sides of the blade ricasso. The hilt is metal with gold and silver style detailing  and the grip is polished wood. The globular pommel features on both sides a circular duel between the lion and unicorn.

The Claymore is one of the most recognizable swords associated with Scotland and the Highland warrior tradition. The name derives from the Gaelic claidheamh mòr, meaning “great sword,” and is commonly used for the large two-handed swords that emerged in Scotland during the late medieval period. With their long blades, extended grips, and distinctive crossguards, these swords provided considerable reach and powerful cutting ability while allowing a trained swordsman to maintain control with both hands. Over time, the Claymore became deeply intertwined with Scottish identity, clan warfare, and the struggle for independence. Although the popular image of the Claymore has been shaped by legends, films, literature, and historical romanticism, the sword remains an enduring symbol of Scottish courage, strength, freedom, and defiance. From medieval battlefields to modern ceremonial and cultural traditions, the Claymore continues to represent the formidable warrior spirit of the Scottish Highlands.

The Maker

Marto

Since 1961, Marto has proudly carried forward the legendary sword-making tradition of Toledo, Spain — a city renowned for centuries as one of the greatest centers of blade craftsmanship in the world. Founded in the historic heart of Toledo, Marto was created to revive and preserve the ancient techniques of the master swordsmiths who made Toledo steel famous across the globe.
Combining time-honored artistry with modern precision, Marto’s artisans continue to honor the legendary “Secret of the Temper” — the closely guarded knowledge of blade hardening that has been passed down through generations. This mastery, born along the waters of the Tagus River (Río Tajo), gives Marto swords their renowned flexibility, strength, and distinctive beauty.
Today, Marto remains one of the most respected names in decorative and ceremonial swords. Each piece reflects Toledo’s rich heritage of history, art, and exceptional steel, delivering the quality and authenticity that collectors and enthusiasts have come to expect from genuine Toledo craftsmanship.
