Dragon King – Winter Sun Katana – Clay Tempered Version

This new version of the Dragon King Winter Sun Katana is (due to popular demand!) updated with a clay-tempered blade with a gorgeous genuine hamon rippling down the polished sheen of the blade. Elegantly themed, this katana draws inspiration from the stark beauty of winter and the Japanese macaques that master survival in the frigid conditions. Part of Dragon King's four-season-themed katana collection, it combines traditional Japanese sword styling with distinctive seasonal symbolism. The blackened fittings feature snowflakes and detailed relief depictions of Japanese snow monkeys, while the contrasting white rayskin handle and textured black lacquered scabbard create a striking wintry aesthetic.

The hand-forged, differentially hardened 5160 high-carbon steel blade measures over 31 inches and features a visible hamon along its length. It possesses a final tempered hardness of 60 HRc at the edge and 40 HRc in the body of the blade. Its thick spine and broad, wedge-shaped cutting geometry are designed to provide durability and reliable cutting performance against appropriate soft and semi-hard targets. Weighing well under 3 lbs and lightened further with its bo hi groove, the sword is balanced in the hand and quite responsive. The blackened tsuba portrays snowflakes on one side and a pair of Japanese macaques on the reverse and is complemented by blackened fuchi and kashira fittings complemented by silver-finished habaki and seppa. The wooden tsuka is covered in genuine white rayskin and wrapped in black tsuka-ito and completed with silver-toned snowflake menuki beneath the wrapping. Measuring almost 12 inches in length the grip gives plenty of room for leverage in the grip.

The carved wooden saya is finished in glossy black lacquer and fitted with a black sageo. Supplied with a protective cloth sword bag, the Winter Sun Katana is an evocative addition to a seasonal sword collection and is equally suited to display and cutting practice against appropriate targets.
