Rawlings Synthetic Sparring Bastard Sword – White Blade

This Sparring and Sport Combat Bastard Sword by Rawlings is made to be both durable, long-lasting and safe for use and weighs about two-thirds as much as a real sword. The blade is flexing impact nylon plastic with wide, rebated edges and a rounded tip. The blade is designed to flex in the last 1/3 of the blade toward the tip; this allows it to flex in the tip area which makes it safer for practicing thrusting technique.

For HEMA, this product has been classified as either appropriate for all skill levels or appropriate for those with Advanced Skills. Michael Turner, instructor at Tuathair Academy of Swordsmanship, assisted us in categorizing these items for the different skill levels of HEMA participants. These categorizations are meant as guidelines. Please refer to tournament rules for specific competition requirements. For this purpose, we do not include swords that may be used in cutting competitions in the HEMA category.

The crossguard and pommel are hard, durable plastic and the base of the blade and tang is fitted with a high tensile steel rod to minimize handle flex. The grip is rubber-like thermoplastic which is designed to not only give the sword an improved grip, but also to absorb impact.

The sword is designed to come apart into all its base components for ease of transport and storage. The crossguard and grip simply slide on over the tang and the pommel is fitted with a hidden nut which screws into the threaded tang.
