Valiant Armoury Craftsman Series – The Valor - Medieval Longsword with Scabbard

The Valor by Valiant Armoury is a finely balanced cut-and-thrust longsword that is as efficient in cutting as it is elegant in form. It is from Valiant's Craftsman Series and is entirely made in the USA; the blade is 6150 high carbon steel which was normalized twice-over to refine the internal grain pattern of the steel to improve its quality and to also optimize heat treatment by uniformly distributing the carbon content of the steel. The blade has a final tempered hardness of 52 HRc and was completed with a fine satin blade polish and a sharp edge with appleseed edge geometry to give it a fine balance in sharpness and edge retention and durability.
The guard and pommel crafted from steel which was cast from waxes for accuracy; the grip is wood which is tightly bound in quality top grain leather. The blade was mounted into the hilt with a hot-peen assembly at the pommel for a robust and long-lasting overall construction. The sword is paired with a premium quality wood-core scabbard which is masterfully overlaid with top grain leather with intricately embossed detailing. The scabbard hangers and included sword belt are of embossed black leather and the height and angle from which the sword hangs from the belt can be adjusted to preference with the antiqued metal buckles. The sword belt itself is adjustable to waist size with its own antiqued buckle.

History comes alive in steel with Valiant Armoury’s line of medieval swords. Hand finished by owner Sonny Suttles or his son Zach Suttles, all grips scabbards and belts are made from scratch using vegetable tanned leather on all their swords.

This piece is as close to a real life magical sword as you can get. It’s very light and easily used in one hand, so this falls perfectly into a bastard sword category. Lively handling, kingly aesthetic, outstanding piece.
As my first European style sword I’ve ever purchased, I have not been disappointed. The sword is immaculately crafted and fits so well in my hands. It is easier to maneuver with two hands, but the sword is light and well balanced enough that one handed use is very agile. The polish and shine on this sword is also heavenly! Very sharp right out of the gate and backyard cutting has been a blast!
The scabbard is very beautiful as well. One thing that took getting used to was the belt for the scabbard. The leather straps used to connect the belt to the scabbard seemed a little thin and might not hold up with continued use? Also, the sword does tend to slip out of the scabbard fairly easily. Again, this is my first European style sword I have owned, so these minor gripes should be taken with a grain of salt. Despite these takeaways, I will still give this sword a 5 out of 5 stars.
A very solid sword paired with a very cool scabbard, shipped in the secure Kult of Athena wrappings. I WILL be purchasing another sword from Valiant Armory and Kult of Athena again!
