This 1st Century Roman sword is based on an example kept within the collection of the Aalen Museum in Germany. The straight, Pompeii-style blade terminates in an acutely-tapered stabbing tip and is forged from high carbon steel. The entirety of the hilt is skillfully carved from polished wood and the pommel is capped with a brass pommel nut. A felt tab is fitted at the base of the blade atop the guard to protect it from scratches and indentations from contact with the scabbard – it can be removed if desired

The scabbard has a core of wood and is overlaid in brown-dyed leather and bound within brass accents; iconographic, decorative plates of steel and brass are fitted onto a single side of the scabbard. The scabbard is finished with two sets of hanging rings with which to fit the sword to a Roman-style baldric.
