Thin blade, obstructively thick shaft = Bad constrast This spear is in no way functional. Blade is much too thin and very hard to keep sharp. Even if it did hold an edge, and was on an appropriately sized shaft, I wouldn’t trust the head to stay in one piece. Seems like it would snap right where the blade meets the socket. A shame because I love Deepeeka Viking swords and thought this would make a nice addition to the wall, but that is all it is used for, a wall decoration. I did not purchase from Kult of Athena so perhaps mine was not subject to the strict rigors of KoA’s standards. Keep that in mind as you make your decision.
I picked this up for the aesthetics. And yes…it does look pretty cool. It has the feel of my old kwan dao from my martial arts days. Its big. It’s flashy. But as the other review stated, the spear head is not structurally sound to withstand actual use. The blade lacks a central ridge line going into the socket…leaving it uncomfortably thin when viewed from the side. I still like it…but would have preferred a more rugged design.
