The Tempest Pipe, crafted by MacQueen Pipes of Canada, is crafted from fine Cherry wood. It is a simple and classic Churchwarden Pipe – No frills, just an innate folk character and a cool smoke from its long stem. The stem is detachable for easy cleaning. The interior of the bowl is pre-carbonized to protect the wood.
The Churchwarden with its distinctly long-stem purportedly was used by the night watchmen of churches, for whom it would be difficult to pass their lonely nighttime vigil with a good smoke. The long stem of the Churchwarden kept the smoke well away from the wardens face, keeping his vision unobstructed. Whether this is true or not, it is clear that the long-stem of the Churchwarden ensures that the smoker has a cooler smoke than a shorter-stemmed pipe with a mouthpiece closer to the hot embers of the bowl.
