Overview
Citadel Dragon Tanto
The Citadel Dragon Tanto perfectly pairs with the Citadel Dragon Katana (SC4046) to make a matched set, but it is gorgeous enough and full of meticulous handcrafted detailing to become the centerpoint of a Japanese blade collection all on its own. It is limited to a production of 100 pieces by Citadel and each is signed and numbered on the nakago by the swordsmith - a manufacturers numbered production certificate is also included.
The handforged blade is of DNH7 high carbon steel which was painstakingly hand polished and hand-sharpened with traditional polishing stones and powders to achieve a spectacular level of finishing polish that brings out the full beauty of the clay-tempered hamon. The copper habaki is crafted with an impressive level of diligence, being perfectly formed to follow the contours and even the curves of the bohi groove! The habaki is a perfect example of the upgraded level of detail and craftsmanship on Citadel that are rarely seen in other Japanese blades on the market. Likewise, the other fittings are all handcrafted and built to match and fit with each specific blade. The tsuba is iron, but polished to such a high level that it has a glorious iridescent sheen to it and it is surmounted with brass seppa. It is matched with a kashira and fuchi on the grip which are hand-inscribed with turbulent waves and polished to match the tsuba. The hardwood tsuka is completely wrapped in premium quality samegawa genuine rayskin and tightly bound in high uality Japanese silk. Unlike lesser offerings, the tsuka was carefully carved to a tight, friction-fit with the blade nakago.
The saya scabbard is made from hardwood and is finished with a full wrap of high quality samegawa rayskin. Its beautiful, mottled appearance was made by filling in the gaps and recesses of the rayskin with fine lacquer and then polishing it all flush. Fittings of carved and polished buffalo horn complete the saya. In additon to the manufacturer's production certificate, a cloth dagger bag and a zippered woven nylon case are all also included.

In addition to forging blades of outstanding quality Citadel’s capable craftsmen focus and emphasize many of the fine details in fit and finish that are overlooked by other manufacturers to create an entirely premium quality product. Details such as habaki blade collars which are custom crafted to fit the contours of an individual sword, full-wrap premium rayskin and koiguchi scabbard openings which are seamlessly sleeved into carved horn are just some of the many refined details that can be seen on many of their offerings.
