The Danelagh Viking Sword is a recreation of 9th -10th century Type L Viking Swords which are most often found in England and their date and provenance makes these swords which may have been borne into the British Isles by the “Great Heathen Army” of Vikings and their successors who invaded England and founded the Danelagh (Danelaw) – Viking controlled territory in East-Central and Northern England. Several examples of these swords are now preserved at the British Museum.

The blade of this replica is forged from high carbon steel with a tempered hardness of 48 – 52 HRc. Like many Viking swords of its type it has a characteristic broad blade with substantial “presence” and power to drive it through sweepingly broad and powerful cutting strokes. The guard is steel and the pommel is a two-part riveted construction that secures the pommel base with its pommel cap. The sword is durably assembled with a solid peen of the blade tang over the pommel end. The wood grip is tightly bound in spiralled vegetable-tanned leather in a bold hue of antiqued red.

The sword is matched with wood-core scabbard which is tightly bound in stitched, high quality leather to match the grip and completed with a wooden suspension loop which allows for the sword to be slung from a belt or baldric (not included).

the is a really nice sword with marching scabbard. Heavy and feel solid. Only complaint is the fit and finish… one quillon looks longer then the other on mine. The blade is better than my usual deepeeka’s.

I received my Danelagh Viking sword 1-25-23. It is a very nice solid well built sword. The grip leather is a beautiful red color as is the scabbard. I am a little critical of the blade however. Mine has spotting/blemishing to it and the blade is slightly wavy. Because of that I would consider the sword to fall into the blemished/munitions grade range….yet I was charged for “standard grade”. But over all I am very happy with the sword.

I couldn’t be happier with this purchase. Solid sword and great quality for the price. It’s not a $1,000 sword, but built like a tank, rock solid hilt and looks great. It has good weight to it but balances well for the massive blade. Added the sharpening service and it arrived very sharp. Swings and cuts great. If you’re looking for a good sword to beat up a little, this is a great sword to start. I will definitely order more products from KOA and Deepeeka.

I have a couple of Deepeeka swords already, the Duna Duna viking blade and a Celtic short sword with wooden grips, both of which I have been very pleased with. But, the DANELAGH is the BEST OF ALL!
I assume the faster you order when items come in stock, the better selection KOA has to choose from. Well, I must have got to them early because this sword is a beauty, without a flaw. Straight as an arrow, perfect flex. Excellent, in fact flawless construction. I love the fact that with DEEPEEKA you can tell the items are hand made at a forge. If you sight down the blade you can see the blows from the hammer in the light, for me these add to the feel of an authentic weapon in my hand when wearing my wool and linen.
This sword has the correct pummel construction, and the grip and guard, all correctly formed and shaped, fit tight and feel strong. The red leather wrap is tight and layered so that the wraps create a serrated feel to the grip giving excellent purchase. The red leather brings me to the scabbard. The deep color of the red is vibrant without being in any way obnoxious or inappropriate. The pics don’t quite do it justice. It’s really a deep, beautiful color. The four decorative strips set it apart from many other scabbards and make it look ‘pricey’. The whole is well put together, ‘sturdy’, is the best word I can think of. The whole package, sword and scabbard just feel sturdy. The sword fits the scabbard well and the sword does not just fall out of the scabbard. It needs to be pulled loose the first couple of inches. I almost hate to say “for the money” because the value of this piece is great, but …for the money, I don’t think you can get a better sword for fun, for cutting or for reenactment. It fits in perfectly with my 800-900 era Saxon archer persona and can comfortably fit on either side of this era by one to two hundred years. Anyway…my thoughts for what they are worth! I would highly recommend this weapon. And what a weapon it is.
