Darksword Armory – The Squire Sword with Integrated Sword Belt – Brown

The Squire Sword by Darksword Armory is a robust and ready for action medieval arming sword inspired by the classic knightly sidearm of the 13th and 14th centuries. Forged from resilient 5160 high carbon spring steel, it is differentially hardened for an edge hardness of 60 HRC with a 50 HRC core, providing both durability and cutting performance. A peened construction, leather-wrapped grip and wood-core scabbard with a leather wrap make the Squire Sword is ideal for collectors, reenactors, and practitioners of historical European martial arts (HEMA).

The 26" blade is crafted from 5160 high carbon spring steel, heat-treated for resilience and flexibility. Differential hardening ensures a hard, cutting-capable edge while maintaining a softer, shock-absorbing core. The hilt is assembled with a steel guard and wheel pommel which are peened securely to the tang. The 4 3/4" grip is a hardwood core wrapped in tightly fitted leather. Each sword is supplied with a wood-core scabbard clad in leather and reinforced with a steel chape and an integrated leather suspension system.

The Squire is light and responsive, weighing under 3 pounds with a point of balance just forward of the guard. It is designed to move fluidly between guards, making it an excellent training sword as well as a historically faithful piece for reenactment and its construction is robust enough for cutting practice with proper targets

Arming swords such as the Squire were standard sidearms of knights, squires, and men-at-arms from the 11th through the 15th centuries. The arming sword was a versatile one-handed weapon balanced for speed and agility. It was commonly paired with a shield, buckler, or dagger. The Squire Sword’s proportions and handling qualities reflect the transition in the High Middle Ages, bridging the transition from primarily cutting blades to those increasingly designed for thrusting.
