Overview

15th Century Knightly Orders Longsword with Scabbard - Deepeeka

This broad-bladed sword with its prominent cross motif is sized and styled for the gauntlet-clad hands of a professional warrior of the knightly monastic orders such as the Templars, Teutonic Knights, the Knights Hospitaller and more. Large and wide bladed, a sword of this type is meant to be held in two hands and used for powerful cuts, chops and sweeping cuts. The blade is forged from C60 high carbon steel (similar to 1060 high carbon steel) with a tempered hardness of 48-52 HRc. The crossguard and pommel are crafted from steel and the grip is wood with a premium leather and cord binding for a sure and comfortable grip. The pommel has its recesses filled with smooth black enamel for a sharply contrasting flourish to complete the sword.

Included is a wood core scabbard which is wrapped in tightly stitched leather and richly and painstakingly embellished by hand with a late medieval floral motif. The buckles and chape are made from antique-finished brass and the buckles can be used to attach the sword and scabbard to your own sword belt. You may have to make or modify your own hangers from leather and an inspiration for that design can be found here with the hangers found on this sword: https://www.kultofathena.com/product/11th-century-viking-sword-2/

Q&A

Questions from the community

Ask a question
Q What is the blade made of, and how durable is it? Common Question
A — KOA

The blade is forged from C60 high carbon steel, a steel similar to 1060, and is tempered to a working hardness of 48-52 HRc. That combination gives the blade the flex and resilience needed for a sword built around powerful two-handed cuts and chops rather than a stiff, brittle display blade.

Q Does this sword ship sharp, and what is "Battle Ready" telling me? Common Question
A — KOA

The edge on this sword is unsharpened as it ships. "Battle Ready" here refers to the sturdy steel crossguard, pommel, and full-length tang construction rather than to edge sharpness, so this is a solidly built sword you could choose to have sharpened later for cutting work.

Q Is this a full-tang sword? Common Question
A — KOA

The tang runs the full length of the hilt, through the wood grip and steel crossguard, and is secured at the pommel by a threaded nut. That nut-pommel construction is a sturdy, functional way to anchor the blade and is common on battle-ready reproductions like this one, not a cosmetic add-on.

Q What is this sword best suited for - display, practice, or cutting? Common Question
A — KOA

As it ships with an unsharpened edge, this sword is well suited to display, handling practice, and historical demonstration of knightly-order sword styles. If you have the edge sharpened afterward, the broad double-edged blade and two-handed grip are built for powerful cuts against targets like tatami or water bottles.

Q What is the grip made of, and how is it constructed? Common Question
A — KOA

The grip core is wood, wrapped in leather and cord binding for a secure, comfortable hold, with metal collars separating the wrapped sections, as shown in the product photographs. This gives good grip texture for the two-handed cuts the sword is designed for.

Q What is the scabbard made of, and can I store the sword in it long-term? Common Question
A — KOA

The scabbard has a wood core wrapped in tightly stitched leather, hand-tooled with a floral motif, and finished with antique-brass buckles and chape. It's built for carrying and display, but like any leather scabbard it can trap moisture against the blade, so for long-term storage it's better to keep the sword out of the scabbard in a dry place.

Q How do I take care of this sword to prevent rust? Common Question
A — KOA

Wipe the blade down after handling and apply a light coat of oil to the steel to guard against rust, especially since the blade ships unsharpened but is still bare high carbon steel. Store the sword out of its leather scabbard in a dry location, and keep the wood grip core and scabbard's wood lining away from excess moisture as well.

Q What is the point of balance, and what does it mean for handling? Common Question
A — KOA

The point of balance sits 5 inches from the guard. For a broad-bladed, two-handed sword of this length, a balance point this close to the hilt keeps the sword controllable while still letting the blade's weight drive strong, sweeping cuts.

Q What are the pommel and crossguard made of, and how are they decorated? Common Question
A — KOA

The pommel and crossguard are steel, and the pommel's recessed cross pattern is filled with smooth black enamel for contrast. The photographs show matching cross motifs stamped or inlaid on both the crossguard tips and the pommel, tying the fittings together visually.
