One of the hardest-hitting swords of the ancient world, the Iberian Falcata was a fierce, forward-weighted chopper that bit deeply into the armor, helmets and even shields of the day and the sword made the Roman conquest of Iberia significantly more difficult for the Legions. Inspired by historical originals, this handcrafted reproduction is eminently suitable for the modern collector, reenactor or backyard cutting enthusiast who wants to experience the famed power of the Iberian Falcata. This particularly gorgeous example features a finely cast horsehead pommel in bronze and a well tempered blade of C60 high carbon steel.

Though short at 18″ long, the Falcata hits with impressive force thanks to its thick blade spine which gives it both durability and mass that translates into substantial kinetic force on a strike. The blade both widens and thins along its main cutting portion to optimize it for slicing into and through a target with lessened drag. Robustly crafted with a full-tang construction, the grip scales of wood and the bronze guard are solidly pinned directly to the blade tang for a very strong overall construction. The sword comes matched with a wooden scabbard which is wrapped in tight, stitched leather of high quality and completed with brass fittings and hanging rings.

Deepeeka has been impressing me more and more lately with their quality. People will often complain about the weight but in this case it is warranted. A historical falcata is blade heavy, described as “the sword you swing like an axe” and that is certainly the case for this replica. The blade is straight, fittings are tight, and the horse head looks great.
