Deepeeka – Landsknecht Katzbalger Sword

This meticulously handcrafted Landsknect Katzbalger is inspired from German and Swiss historical originals from the 16th century. Its broad blade is forged from tempered high carbon steel and the blade is paired with a hilt fitted with an iron S-Guard and pommel. The blade tang end has been hammered into a wide peen over the pommel to fully seat and secure the blade with the hilt for a lasting construction. The grip is carved and polished wood topped with a brass ferrule collar. The sword comes with a wood core scabbard with brass fittings and a tight binding of high quality stitched leather.

The 28" long blade is strengthened with a ricasso at its base, with unneeded weight reduced with multiple fullers and it balances at 6" forward of the guard. The sword is clearly optimized for chopping and hacking and the weapon is deliberately built "burly" to give it the durability needed to endure the hard-use of 16th century close formation combat between masses of drilled soldiery and mercenaries festooned with heavy weaponry such as halberds and greatswords. The tough Katzbalger is designed to be a sidearm for this environment - strong enough to survive against heavier weapons, but compact enough to be wielded in a crowded and chaotic combat environment. Its eminently suited for modern collectors and reenactors alike!
