Celtic Sword - High Carbon Steel - Devil's Edge
The Devils Edge Celtic Sword is a robustly constructed full-tang leaf-blade sword designed for deep-slicing and decisive chopping. This ancient and elongated blade design both widens and flattens the main cutting portion of the blade to give it a wide and thin plane which both cuts into and separates a target as it passes through it with minimal drag due to its flattened cross section. A comparably thick base of the blade imparts durability and brings some mass closer to the hilt to ensure it maintains a favorably agile and responsive balance for improved handling.
The sharp blade is crafted from high carbon steel and the blade has a thick, full tang which is clearly visible within the composite grip to ensure that there can be doubt as to the solid construction of this hilt design. The guard and pommel are fashioned from brass and the grip is completed with polished halves of wood which have been triple-riveted into the tang with brass. Included with the sword is a durable leather sheath with stitched construction.

This blade is made of stainless steel, not 1070 steel as advertised. The sword looks great, but why would you try to pass it off as a better steel? Never a good move to lie to your customers in my opinion.

Hey guys gonna lead by saying the sword looked awesome in my wedding and I was very pleased overall. I would like your recommendation as to the best sharpening tool for honing this blade, thanks!
I’ve had mine for about a year and it’s pretty solid blade my only issue is the grip is way to thin so the blade rolls in my hand when I swing other than that it’s been a great sword
Found this while looking for a decent short sword. I wasn’t after a Celtic hilt and leaf blade, but this seems to be the best price for a *useable* short sword.
That said, this thing is gorgeous! The steel, brass and wood hilt and handle are reminiscent of the bowie knives of the 1970s. It’s very solid and a good modern example of this style sword. This, I assume, Pakistani manufacture is decent, some minor flaws, as usual. I took a file to the lead edges of the brass guard to soften the mold-edges.
And it comes sharp! It’s a fairly blunt grind, for this blade is over 4.8mm thick, but quite sharp nonetheless. The tip of the blade is still 2mm thick, just after the 2mm ground edge, so that gives moderate resistance to lunge/stabbing, but the heavier blade makes slashing very effective, like a knife-shaped axe.
Make sure to distinguish between this one and the identical stainless version.
Really happy with the sword. It has a clean edge, came slightly oiled, and it just really feels great in the hand. My only complaint is the sheath, which is just a cover, with no belt loop… I would love to find an alternative leather sheath that can be worn more easily. I don’t think the current one would hold well in a frog or loop.
I’ve been wanting to do this review for a while after having spent an extended period with this sword.
First, the sword I received is certainly high carbon steel and well tempered. It holds an edge and resharpens well. It’s a clean, quick in hand, and hard wearing xyphos/gladius. The grip is smooth clean hard wood-pinned and very secure. You can sand it, leave it as is, wrap it in leather. Brass hilting and pommel work is smooth clean and sound, even after extensive use.
The sword chops and cuts well-but as a weapon, it is clearly a thruster, and a powerful one. It reminds me of the descriptions of the Gladius Hispanius of the Republican Roman Era.
The sheath I received is quite good quality for the price. I love this little sword, and for the cost, it might be the best value sword in my fairly extensive collection.
One note if you expect to actually use this sword, and not just display it:
I mainly use Japanese water stones to sharpen my blades. Because of the blade geometry, sharpening this blade with a rectangular stone can be tedious. Partially rounded stones, designed for curved blades, really make it much easier and produce a better result.
Overall I would highly recommend this product. It performs soundly and has held up really well with use.
This is a good sword for the price. All the hilt components are tight. The brass pommel and guard are attractive. Everything is fairly symmetrical.
As for ergonomics, the handle is comfortable and offers plenty of room. The edges of the guard are rounded over so that they don’t dig into my fingers. The sword isn’t overly heavy, but it certainly is balanced to cut. I haven’t cut anything with it, so I can’t speak to its performance.
I would buy it again (well, technically, it was a Christmas present from my grandma).
Definitely a good looking blade but when testing the hardness, I noticed that it and my new Xiphos both test to the same hardness. While both are Devils Edge the aforementioned Xiphos is supposed to be a much softer stainless steel. Not to mention it took two weeks and an email before the order was even shipped. To everyone reading reviews if your going Devils Edge stick to stainless at least then you get what you paid for.
