The Dybäck Viking Sword is a reproduction of an 11th Century original found in a peat bog in Sweden. The immaculately detailed sword was likely a prized possession of a Norse chieftain or champion and the hilt was embellished throughout with knotwork and animal motif design of snakes, birds and fantastical beasts. The blade of this replica has been crafted from Damascus steel and the vibrant ripple-like patterning throughout the blade was created when the bladesmith skillfully folded the steel billet of the blade while forging it into shape. The guard and pommel are finely cast in great detail in antique-finished brass and the wooden grip is tightly bound in braided brass wire.

The sword is paired with a wooden scabbard which is tightly bound in stitched high quality leather and adorned with intricate and quality-crafted fittings and a belt suspension slide of antiqued brass.

Dyback Damascus Viking Sword (Erik the Red) Review - Deepeeka

1 review for Dybäck Viking Sword with Damascus Blade – Deepeeka Primus

  1. Thomas

Disclaimer – Bought this at another seller than KoA, and I’m by no means a sword expert. I use KoA though for all my purchases to get specifications, pictures and any available reviews, since they generally are the best.

I only recently started collecting swords, and I wanted this one primarily for the damascus pattern and overall looks, but also just to have a battle ready viking sword in my collection.

Scabard – looks really nice, and have a good quality, it takes a big effort to draw and sheathe the sword though – more on that later

Sword appearance – Blade looks gorgeous with the damascus pattern very vivid, everything about the handle is also very pleasing to look at.

Functionality – Sword handles like a brick. When considering the PoB and the weight, I was seriously surprised at how unwieldy and heavy this feels. It is as stated in the specification also completely blunt. The handle while very nice looking is not pleasant to grip for a longer period of time, and you hands “smell” metallic afterwards. Finally and to me most distressingly, holding up the sword in fron of my eye and looking down the lenght towards the tip, then there isn’t a single straight line on the sword from the edges on the blade to the grooves. The lines of the sword are very wavy and uneven, which detracts from its functionality and aesthetics. This also makes the friction when drawing the blade from the scabbard very uneven and at a certain point I have to put some strength into it to get the sword to move.
I get the feeling that while I assume this is handmade, it would have been better quality if it had been stamped and the machined.
I don’t know if this is to be expected from a sword from Deepeeka, but it is a bit disappointing.

Conclusion – very nice looking sword with very bad functionality. That KoA describe this as battle ready is in my humble opinion wrong, and when looking at other sites at some they also describe it as a decoration piece.

so how would I rate this
For a battle ready sword – 1/5 stars
    for a decoration piece – 4/5 start
