GDFB Front Laced Ankle Boots – GB0797 I was somewhat leery about ordering shoes over the internet. I am fairly picky about how my shoes fit and without being able to try these on prior to purchasing them I didn’t know how I would like them. I can honestly say I am very pleased with the fit, the quality and the period styling. I did purchase a set of Dr Scholls inserts since I have high arches and with those the fit was perfect. The construction also seems to be well done and overall I totally pleased.

Fantastic recreations Well made medieval shoes that include a hobnailed sole for better grip (not shown in pictures). These shoes have served me well in tournaments both indoors and outdoors, where the extra grip the hobnails provide truly shine. Reaching just up past the ankles, these boots feel good and have stood up to punishment without failing.

Wow! I got these wanting a reasonably priced, historically accurate boot. At $75, they don’t cost more than most modern shoes. The fit is just beautiful. I have rather wide feet, particularly for my height (5’4″), and these fit better than my every-day shoes. And aesthetically, they’re just gorgeous. I haven’t gotten the chance to wear them outside yet, but even on carpet I can feel the hobnails giving much needed extra traction. Overall, an amazing product. I highly recommend.

These really are some soldier’s shoes. These shoes are constructed to be VERY tough and damage resistant. The tough leather soles with hobnails behave quite effectively when walking through outdoor terrain such as grass, forest undergrowth, dirt, and rocks. Resting high on the ankles ensure these boots give you more than adequate support, while also allowing one to wear leg armor of some kind. I recommend wearing thick, tall socks so that the boots don’t rub your skin raw. Take time to break these in, I’m breaking mine in currently and I’d rather deal with blisters now than later when I need them to be comfortable. Despite this breaking-in period, these shoes are awesome, I feel like I’ll own these for years to come.

One thing to note, DO NOT wear these when walking on smooth tile or concrete, the hobnails do the opposite and cause you to slip and slide, these are purely OUTDOOR boots, meant to be worn on the long march and in the thick of battle.

Yes, they are worth it. Buy these, they’re fantastic.

I’ve owned a pair of these for 5 years now, and they only get better with age. The leather is tough and stiff, and once broken in they become more comfortable without getting any weaker. The hobnails do their job and show no signs of quitting; with that said they are very noisy on paved road, creating a “crushing pebbles” sound.

You’ll want to know how/learn how to walk like our ancestors, as a modern heel-strike gait will become painful.
