This German Hunting Dagger has a long, unsharpened blade forged from high carbon steel. The detailed guard and pommel are finely cast from brass and the grip is carved from bone. The sheath is thick leather with a chape and locket and brass.

Long-bladed and finely crafted hunting daggers were a common sight in German Hunting Lodges and on German Huntsmen of the 19th and 20th century. The long blades were designed to dispatch wounded game and their hilts and sheaths typically featured designs inspired by the woodlands and the game within.

This is a replica hirschfänger based on actual models from Germany. For less than half the price of an authentic one, Deepeeka delivers an amazing quality functional product. I’m very happy with my purchase. The sharpening job was excellent as well.

    2. Dan D’Silva (verified owner)

Overall this is a nice item. Beefy and a bit blade-heavy for its size due to the light pommel cap, more like a cuttoe or other very short sword than a dagger. The parts are a bit crude compared to German-made ones, but not bad at all for the price.

The only part I dislike is the hollow bone grip, which doesn’t convincingly look like antler, and is held in place only with epoxied caps at either end — I could imagine the grip cracking or caps coming loose in use. If you can, replace it with real antler or even a nice suitable wood.
