Our Practical Katanas have always been at the forefront of providing economical yet functional swords to the martial arts community. These Practical Iaito with stainless steel blades combine the blade geometries and profiles of Performance Series Iaito with the affordability of our Practical fittings. The handle is tightly wrapped in the traditional style with imitation leather to provide a positive grip that will withstand years of kata practice.

Shop Hanwei Swords, Armor & More
Master sword smith Paul Chen created Hanwei Swords and led the early industry by creating authentic handmade swords of the highest grade steel over the last several decades. A favorite amongst the industry, the original Hanwei factory suffered from a fire and ownership changes. In 2025, the factory closed and original collaborator Frenchie Jin’s forge (Dragon King / Kingston Arms) has taken over, improving and reintroducing past models. The reinvented Hanwei focuses primarily on Japanese and Chinese models, including the Performance Series Katana. Many of the original European models are now adopted as part of the Kingston Arms line.
Often paired together
I’ve been using this Iaito that I purchased from the Kult now for a few months. The tsukamaki is holding up decidedly well to daily practice. The saya is a bit too loose. I have had to shim the koiguchi, which is relatively easy, but the Iaito still rattles further in. It may be that saya on Iaito are designed loose for newer Iaidoka. Jeez, dig the lingo eh? The handle wrap is holding better than expected and the sheath mouth needed shimming while the sword still rattles in the saya. Worth it for me.
