The River Witham Sword was dredged from the River Witham near the town of Lincoln during work carried out in 1788. The sword may be a remnant of the Battle of Lincoln in 1141; however, it was most likely constructed between 1250-1300 CE. The inscription on both sides of the blade reads +NDXOXCHMDRCHDXORVI+. The blade is crafted from 1566 high carbon steel which is both tempered and sharpened. The guard and pommel are stainless steel and the grip is wood which is bound in leather. The sword is matched with a wooden scabbard which is bound in leather and completed with stainless steel fittings and steel hanging rings.

Just recieved my river witham, sold as blemished, had minor issues which I fixed to my satisfaction, the edge was pretty sharp so I cleaned it up with my diamond sharpener, a minute on each edge and yeah I cut my finger, it’s now sharp.the blade was milled very nice and straight, the fullers were very straight as well. The guard, handle and pommel are all centered and fitted together nice and tight. The handle is comfortable and finished well, i like this pommal best of all my swords, not so big and nice to hold. The guard could be bigger, its rounded smooth and doesn’t hurt your hand , the scabbard is excellent, the sword and scabbard are very plain just the way I like. This sword is very thing I hoped it would be, thanks KOA and hanwei.
