The PSK Plus XL Light Katana returns with all the performance that made it a favorite as well as new refinements and improvements. The updated hilt fittings (tsuba, fuchi, kashira, and menuki) now feature cleaner lines and sharper detail thanks to new tooling, giving the sword a fresh look that still honors the early originals thanks to these parts now being made from fresh casting molds. At its heart remains the proven blade: forged from 1566 high carbon steel and differentially hardened, preserving the trusted geometry and cutting characteristics of the original design. It is equally at home being the centerpiece of a fine Japanese blade collection or as a dojo cutting stand workhorse that refines one's techniques with impactful and reliable cutting performance. The CAS Hanwei Performance Series continues to set the benchmark in the modern katana market. Long relied upon by cutting practitioners, these swords are known for their consistency, durability, and dependable performance. Widely imitated but never truly matched, CAS Hanwei blades reflect over forty years of manufacturing expertise, delivering confidence with every swing.

Built for speed and efficiency, the PSK (Performance Series Katana) Plus XL Light Katana is optimized for quick draws and repeated cuts on lighter targets. It retains the familiar Practical Plus furniture while incorporating upgraded natural materials in the tsuka. The 29.5" long blade features the extended XL geometry, now paired with bo-hi (fullers) on both sides to reduce weight and improve handling and speed. The result is a faster, more responsive sword that allows for multiple cuts with less fatigue. Differential hardening yields an edge hardness of approximately HRC 60 and a spine hardness of around HRC 40, balancing sharpness with resilience. Its over 10" long grip gives plenty of leverage and its wooden tsuka features panels of genuine rayskin which are wrapped tightly with high quality black cotton ito cord. The sword is completed with a wood-core saya scabbard with a black textured lacquer and a sageo cord for wear. Also included is a cloth sword bag for storage and transport.

Originally produced at the renowned Hanwei forge—closed in 2024—these swords are now crafted by the skilled artisans of the Dragon King forge in Dalian. Under the guidance of Frenchie Jin, a former protégé of Paul Chen and a key figure in the original Hanwei production process, the legacy continues with precision and authenticity.
