Iron Tiger Forge – Imperial Household Tachi Sword

This Katana with its dignified and elevated tachi style setting and lavish adornment in Chrysanthemum and Cherry Blossom motif would be a fitting sword for the Imperial Household. Its sharp and well tempered blade is hand-forged into form from 1065 and 1045 high carbon steel which have been skillfully melded and folded together by the bladesmith to form thousands of internal layers. The harder steel enhances the resistance to wear and dulling, whilst the softer steel gives it the resiliency and flex needed to ensure that it is resilient and enduring. The folding of the steel has left bold and vibrant ripple-like patterning visible throughout the blade and its lack of a bo-hi groove gives it additional mass to power it through powerful and deliberate cutting.

The blade is durably mounted into an antiqued brass hilt with detailing on its tsuka, tsuba, fuchi and kashira hand picked out in gold and silver detailing. The ornate habaki is of fine cast brass and it is surmounted with seppa of copper. The scabbard is crafted from matching antiqued brass and its highly detailed fittings are a fine match to the sword. The interior of the scabbard is lined with wood and it is finished with a cord sageo. Included with the Sword and Saya is a brocade bound display and gift box, a wood-boxed traditional Japanese sword maintenance kit with its own dedicated slot in the display box and a cloth sword bag.
