Landsknecht Emporium - Medium Bauernwehr with Sheath
The medium sized Bauernwehr from Landsknecht Emporium looks like it comes right from the pages of 16th century illustrations and woodcuts from the patchwork principalities of the Holy Roman Empire. Though it could be a useful daily working tool, the size, blade shape and nagel of this piece make it clear that this dagger was truly built for the realm of war, campaign and self defense. Its size is less obtrusive than the large Bauernwehr, but it retains plenty of length and mass to make it a tenacious fighter in a grappling scrum.
Though it looks like a knife due to its knife-like construction, the piece is more at home to be used as a fighting dagger. The blade is very thick and entirely rigid, ideal for giving the dagger vicious thrust and puncture ability and its thick, rigid blade gives the bearer outsized influence on controlling and winning a bind. The notch in the guard, coupled with the position of the nagel provide a neatly slotted handhold that gives exemplary control of the dagger and the flared design of its grip scales keep it well seated in the hand and make disarmament difficult.
The blade is crafted from 6150 high carbon steel which is well tempered and sharpened. The false edge is also sharpened, but the tip of the dagger is altogether thick to support and reinforce the tip for thrusting so this false edge is more intended to aid penetration than to cut. The bolster is made from resilient mild steel and the grip is a composite of finely polished beech wood which is riveted directly to the thick tang. The nagel pin goes straight through the guard and is peened on the reverse to anchor it to create the strongest possible construction for the nagel.
Included is a halftan sheath of sturdy hand-stitched leather with a hand-ethched design and a leather belt hanging loop.

The Maker
Landsknecht Emporium
The Landsknecht was the archetypal mercenary of the late 15th and most of the 16th century, with their heyday being in the second quarter of the latter. They were pretty much the meanest & baddest soldiers around that time, with a heightened sense of fashion. Our goal is to create weapons a period Landsknecht would be proud to use, mostly on a budget that keeps it accessible to modern recruits.
Due to the continuous research we are doing, we sometimes stray from that time and location to better understand trends that led to the development of weapons we aim to recreate. We are progressing from simpler items towards the more complex ones. We started with making Messers in 2016 and it was our main focus in these past few years. We intend to cover most of the styles relevant to our interest, while we’re planning to expand our repertoire with Katzbalgers, Bidenhanders, various daggers and all kinds of awesome stabbiness in the foreseeable future.
We founded Landsknecht Emporium to this end in March of 2016 in the outskirts of rural Hungary, at the end of a dead-end dirt road in a house not unlike those of murderous hillbillies in the movies that we call home.

Would give the knife itself 5 stars, it is very sharp and the fit and finish are better than the Gunther I own. The sheath is where it looses a star. The balance of the knife makes it hang almost perfectly horizontal from the belt. I wore it around the house the first night to test it and after leaning over my bed to open a window the knife fell out and landed about 6 inches from my bare foot. You will need another sheath if you plan on actually using and wearing the knife
