Landsknecht Emporium - Small Bauernwehr with Sheath
The "small" Bauernwehr by Landsknecht Emporium is still a sizeable dagger and unlike its beefier brothers this one is more slender and fully optimized for the thrust in a manner akin to a dirk or some stilettos. The blade is very thick with a gentle taper that fully supports the tip to ensure it has the durability to easily and deeply puncture thick layers of 16th century attire and the weaker points of a harness. It has a sharpened single edge and can capably cut or be used for simpler cutting tasks and chores, but it truly comes into its own as a puncturing dagger. Though the more elegant of the three Landsknecht Bauernwehr, this one with its thick and rigid blade is still fantastically deadly and sized for easy, daily wear for self defense in any situation both indoors at home or manor, or outdoors among fief and land.
The blade is crafted from tough and well tempered 6150 high carbon steel. Its bolster is formed from two pinned halves of bronze and its composite grip is finely polished grip scales of beech which are riveted directly to the thick tang. Its thick nagel is pinned straight through the grip and peened on the reverse for a stout construction. The dagger comes with a hand stitched halftan sheath of genuine vegetable tanned leather with hand inscribed embellishment and a belt loop for wear.

The Maker
Landsknecht Emporium
The Landsknecht was the archetypal mercenary of the late 15th and most of the 16th century, with their heyday being in the second quarter of the latter. They were pretty much the meanest & baddest soldiers around that time, with a heightened sense of fashion. Our goal is to create weapons a period Landsknecht would be proud to use, mostly on a budget that keeps it accessible to modern recruits.
Due to the continuous research we are doing, we sometimes stray from that time and location to better understand trends that led to the development of weapons we aim to recreate. We are progressing from simpler items towards the more complex ones. We started with making Messers in 2016 and it was our main focus in these past few years. We intend to cover most of the styles relevant to our interest, while we’re planning to expand our repertoire with Katzbalgers, Bidenhanders, various daggers and all kinds of awesome stabbiness in the foreseeable future.
We founded Landsknecht Emporium to this end in March of 2016 in the outskirts of rural Hungary, at the end of a dead-end dirt road in a house not unlike those of murderous hillbillies in the movies that we call home.

I love this knife, i really do. but i have to give it a bit of a lower rating.
First thing, the sheath. its quite poor and i reccomend getting a custom one made for this knife if you want to use it.
Secondly and the most concerning, the steel is soft. incredibly soft. the one i received i dont even know if its been tempered at all. the hard edge of the spine will roll over on a ferroceum flint rod and can be easily gouged or scratched on other metals. Softer steels can have some benefits. easier to sharpen, bends insteads of shatters, but if the softness of the steel on the one i received is representative of all of these then its not a knife very suitable to hard work. which is a shame because the design of this blade just begs to be used as a heavy camping or hunting knife.
