Legacy Arms - Knight's Riding Sword
The blade of the Legacy Arms Knightly Riding Sword is hand forged from sharp 5160 carbon steel and hand tempered. The blade is then securely peened at pommel for an altogether tough construction. The handle is wood wrapped in black leather for a finish. This sword also includes a wood scabbard wrapped in black leather with steel accents at throat and tip.
According to Ewart Oakeshott’s “Records of the Medieval Sword”, page 151; An identical one is shown on two early 14th century effigies in Germany. (i), of Arnold I Langraph of Cleve, + 1320 in Stiftskirche at Cleve, and (ii), of one of the hero-figures, c. 1308, in the Rathaus at Cologne. Not only are the hilts of the swords on these figures exactly the same as this sword, but the size is too, more proof (if any more is needed, which it shouldn’t be) that these short swords were not made for boys, archers, etc., but for knights and in this case, great nobles.

Very nice sized sword. I heard Legacy Arms makes swords that are meant to be used hard, and that is what I needed. I did some bushwhacking through blackberries and 1/2 wide growth down by the river today and the sword did very well with no edge rolling. It is a better cutter than my Combat Commander Gladiator sword, which is basically a machete. I like how the Knight’s Riding Sword is very useful and stows easily in a vehicle, and rides naturally just stuck in the belt. I cut some pumpkins as well, and yes the sword came sharp enough to make me bleed when I was careless with it. Now I have more respect for this little stinger! I feel like this sword will last me many years of rough use, and plan to take it with me when I am roving in the woods stump shooting with my recurve bow, or just down by the river with my dog to harvest fetching sticks and hack trails. It also matches my Crusader outfit pretty well, which fits in a duffel bag. The sword does not fit in the duffel, but rides perfectly well with the handle sticking out. Thanks for the great sword!!
This was the first of many swords that I ordered from KOA and I just ordered another one. I’m gonna take one on my cross country camping trips and re wrap the grip on the other as part of my display. This sword is still one of my favorites as far as handling and balance go and would be a perfect self defense tool against any would be attacker not armed with a firearm. Since any potential opponent in this day and age is not likely to be wielding a sword, having extra length isn’t an important factor, and a major drawback in tight quarters. As the other reviewer pointed out, it’s perfect for discreetly carrying in your vehicle. One thing that’s obvious: the grip is way longer than the historic original it was patterned after, but that’s OK with me as it allows for more flexibility with my grip. All in all it’s a basic but solidly constructed little sword. Two thumbs up!
