This Roman Niedermoermter Helmet is crafted from 18 gauge steel and is heavily embellished in brass accenting and trim. The cheekplates are hinged and the interior of the helmet is blackened and unlined. A pair of small rings integrated onto the cheekplates allow for a chin strap to be fitted to the helm (chin strap not included).

A very cool helmet, with some strangely poor-quality elements. Almost as soon as I unwrapped the helmet, a) the two domes on the neck guard anchoring the handle were wobbling all over the place and b) the plate on the crest of the helmet was loose and spun around freely. Both were attached with very low-effort/quality metal loops and nothing else. I’m honestly not exactly sure what Deepeeka was thinking with that design choice, as it really cheapens the feel of an otherwise solid helmet. That solid feeling is one of the things I like about Deepeeka products even if they can be a bit sloppy with the execution at times.
ALL OF THAT SAID, these were easily fixable issues and it was honestly a fun crafting project to figure out improvements. I ended up basically replicating the metal loops (which does seem faithful to the original this replica is based on: https://www.christies.com/en/lot/lot-6455235) but with much better and more sturdy cotter pins, less than a dollar each at Ace Hardware. After some bending and hammering, the loose pieces are much more sturdy. With that fixed it feels much higher quality. So in short, it’s definitely a fixer-upper, which is a bummer for a helmet of this price. But it’s an easy fix at least.
