Ronin Katana - Viking Sword - #11
This Viking Sword has a sharpened blade that is forged from 1075 high carbon steel; it has a hexagonal cross-section coupled with a deep and wide fuller to reduce unnecessary weight in the blade.
The crossguard and three-lobed pommel are crafted from steel and the wooden grip is tightly overlaid in black cord. The hilt is secured to the blade tang with a peened pommel. The sword is paired with a wood-core scabbard that is bound leather and fitted with a steel chape and locket. A separate sword belt of thin leather with steel fittings and an adjustable metal buckle is included.

Great Viking sword for anyone’s collection! This sword is VERY well made, very aesthetically pleasing, and a great addition to anyone’s collection that’s missing a piece of Viking weaponry. The two reasons I gave it four stars though is for the lack of usability and the “leather contraption” that the scabbard is supposed to hang from. The first issue is that when trying to swing this sword around, the guard painfully digs into your wrist everytime you attempt any maneuver that doesn’t involve the “hand-shake” grip. It is a real, and after a few test swings, painful problem that doesn’t go away after continued use. Instead it kind of makes you regret buying the sword, which is a shame because for all intents and purposes it’s a very nice offering from Ronin. If the guard were swapped out and replaced then it would be a great sword to own, but the peen makes that VERY difficult to achieve. Lastly the scabbard is decently made, but the collection of leather straps that come with the sword are quite flimsy, and ultimately useless for its intended purpose. Other than those two issues it’s a very nice blade of 1075 steel to own. For collectors it’s perfect, but practitioners…..not so much.
This sword is very well made and is quite usable. I’ve been cutting with it for two years now and with careful use and storage still haven’t needed to sharped it. The other reviewer on here that gave it only four stars with complaints about the “guard” digging into the wrist either is just a spoiler from another company, doesn’t know what they are talking about, or doesn’t know how to swing a sword at all. How in the world can the guard be digging into one’s wrist? I’ve heard this complaint about the pommel digging in if the sword isn’t gripped correctly- but not the guard!
I love my sword, but there are a few problems with it. The hilt is secured by plastic pieces and the hand wrap came loose very easily. Also the sword was tight in the scabbard because of glue. Otherwise it is a nice cutter that has withstood a lot of abuse.
Received mine within 2 weeks…. Blade was surprisingly razor sharp, could actually shave with it which shocked me because research and other reviews said it would be moderately sharp but NOT to expect razor quality. The handle is just the right size for my hand… The scabbard tip fell off pretty quickly but a shot of silicon and it’ll never happen again. All in all weight and balance were as advertised and it fit right in my collection. Thrilled with the service and the product, will be purchasing from here again. Only complaint is the Fed ex driver took 45 minutes to get out of his truck before I could start chopping up the boxes it came in and every j fortunate drink jug in my fridge lol
Sorry for 2 reviews but got off topic. Sword is incredibly well constructed. There is a review on here that says his guard is held together by plastic pieces…. I have no idea what he’s talking about and as for the wrap coming loose…. It’s tight as can be, well sat and incant see that changing any time soon. No rattle, tight fit in scabbard, and the swing just feels….right. balance about 3 or 4ish inches above the guard giving it a powerful chop but still low enough to be nimble during an exchange. Solid. And pommel is tight and three lobed which would suit well for a defensive strike
