The Warg Rider Longsword from Ronin Katana melds the epic styling of high fantasy with an eminently functional cutting blade and practical, robust construction. Its a great sword for the avid collector or even the beginner who wants a sword that looks like it came right out of their Dungerons and Dragons module or video game and is just as real and ready for action as the other historically-grounded swords on their wall. A problem that many other “fantasy-built-to-function” swords on the market often have is that they are heavy and unpleasant to actually use and this offering from Ronin is designed with a streamlined profile and sensibly proportioned components that keep the weight in check and the balance at a very usable 3.5 inches to make a sword that is as capable and fun to actually use as historic swords.
The wide, cutting-focused blade clocks in at around 36 inches in length and its width and geometric profile is optimized for powerful, sweeping cuts and hacking blows. The sharpened blade is forged from 1075 high carbon and is tempered. Its fine-cast hilt components are of stainless steel with attention paid to the creation of a crossguard of norse inspired knotwork capped with dynamic and masterfully sculpted wolf heads. The tang of the blade is quite thick and tough and quadrangular in shape and it was peened over the pommel to durably assembly the sword before being ground flush. The shaped grip is about 8.5 inches in length to give its bearer plenty of striking leverage and it is carved from wood with a final binding in stitched leather. The scabbard is custom-carved to match the sword with a thick core of wood and an exterior wrap of stitched leather and knotted hanging rings. A sword belt is not included.
