Sansibar Sword 3

This Sansibar style Filipino sword was crafted in the Philippines and has a very sharp blade of 5160/D2 high carbon steel. The false edge is sharpened and the forward sloping blade brings substantial slicing and chopping power. A thick spine that runs for most of the blade length gives it notable durability and this spine quickly tapers into a thin, sharpened edge at the main cutting portion of the blade; this gives this part of the blade a slim profile which will create minimum drag when passing through a target.

The bolster is blackened steel and the grip is carved and polished wood. The sword is matched with a wooden scabbard with a blackened steel retaining clip which will latch onto and secure the sword when sheathed.

While many Filipino bladed weapons serve a dual purpose as both tool and self defense weapon, the Sansibar swords are meant solely warfare. Their thinned blade thicknesses near the main striking area of the swords were intended for human enemies by Filipino craftsman, whereas swords that doubled as brush clearing tools tended to maintain thick spines for durability against denser targets.

Please Note: Due to being crafted in a tropical environment with native woods, it is common for these weapons to develop thin, minor cracks in the wood and the scabbard as the woods adjust to our more temperate environment. Cracks in items sent to you will not be harmful to the structural integrity of the item. Also – The decorative rattan wrapping can be brittle and may crack or break.

It is recommended that a light coating of protective oil is used to protect the wood from dryness and cracking.
