Excalibur is the legendary sword of King Arthur, one of the most iconic weapons in Western mythology and literature. Said to possess magical properties, it symbolizes divine kingship, rightful sovereignty, and heroic power. In Arthurian tales, particularly in Sir Thomas Malory’s Le Morte d’Arthur, there are two traditions: one where young Arthur proves his destiny by pulling the sword from a stone, and another where the wizard Merlin guides him to receive the true Excalibur from the mystical Lady of the Lake. The blade was renowned for its incredible sharpness and near-invincibility in battle, and its scabbard was said to protect the wearer from losing blood. After Arthur’s final battle at Camlann, he commanded his knight Sir Bedivere to return the sword to the Lady of the Lake, where it vanished beneath the waters.
