Overview
Swordier - Type XVIa Longsword
The Swordier European Longsword is a striking medieval-inspired longsword that combines an elegant scent stopper pommel with a long, agile blade designed for versatile cutting and thrusting techniques. Its lively handling, substantial reach, and distinctive genuine leather scabbard make it an appealing choice for collectors, historical enthusiasts, reenactors, and HEMA practitioners looking for a functional European sword with an attractive presentation. Despite its substantial 47.5-inch overall length, the sword feels agile and well balanced in the hand, making it easy to handle and maneuver.
The 35.25-inch blade features a hollow ground cross section that removes a considerable amount of weight from the blade while maintaining the rigidity needed for effective cutting and thrusting. The blade is made from patterned (damascus) steel with an HRc hardness of 55 HRC giving it a very distinct "rippled water" appearance created by several different steels melded together into a single blade. Weighing 3 lbs 3 oz and balancing a bit over 2 inches above the guard, the sword has a responsive feel allowing it to strike swiftly and return. The hilt features a scent stopper pommel and a long 9.6-inch grip giving the wielder plenty of room for different grip positions and providing excellent leverage for powerful cuts, controlled thrusts, and changes in hand position. The blade is secured through the hilt with a peen over the pommel for a solid overall construction.
The sword comes with a wooden scabbard wrapped in genuine leather providing an attractive complement to the sword's styling. The leather-covered scabbard gives it a particularly distinctive appearance. Combining a long blade with a responsive point of balance, generous grip length, and distinctive scent stopper pommel, this longsword is an excellent choice for collectors and practitioners seeking a full-sized European longsword with lively handling and strong visual presence.

The Maker
Swordier
Swordier is not just a brand – it’s a passion for the art of sword-making. It was founded by a group of enthusiasts who wanted to share the beauty and craftsmanship of Chinese swords, blades, medieval swords, and katanas with the world.
Our swords are not just any swords. They are hand-made and fully forged using traditional techniques that have been passed down through the centuries. Every sword, blade, or katana that we sell at Swordier is made in Longquan, a city in Zhejiang province, China, that has a rich history of sword-making spanning over 2,600 years.
Longquan is renowned for its traditional sword-making techniques and is home to some of the world’s most skilled sword-makers. The city’s sword-makers have developed a unique style of sword-making that emphasizes quality, balance, and durability, and they use high-carbon steel and traditional methods to produce blades that are both strong and sharp.
At Swordier, we are committed to upholding the tradition of excellence established by Longquan’s sword-makers. We source only the highest quality materials and work with the best sword-makers in the world to produce swords that are not just weapons, but works of art. We believe that swords are not just tools, but symbols of strength and tradition. That’s why we are so passionate about bringing the beauty and power of swords to people all over the world.
