This replica of a Republic of Texas Dragoon Saber replicates a sword made for the Texas Dragoons whilst Texas was an independent country before becoming a state of the United States. Texas, having won independence from Mexico in 1836 contracted the Ames Mfg Co. for an order of 280 M1833 Dragoon Sabers in 1839. The blade is forged from tempered 1075 high carbon steel with a stiffened pipe-back saber design. The hilt is fine cast brass and the wood grip is bound in leather and completed with inlaid brass wire and detailing. The blade is etched on a single side with “Texas Dragoons”. The sword comes with a steel scabbard with a pair of hanging rings for wear.
