The Gunther is a Medieval Arming Sword of the later Middle Ages; swords of this type were intended as a quality sidearm in war or as a sword for everyday self-defense. They are large enough for war with a broad blade well-able to parry large weapons and their blades were well-suited for cutting and hacking. They are just short enough however to not be tedious and obtrusive for everyday wear.

The Gunther Arming Sword has a blade forged from high carbon steel – its thick edges are built for the rigorous use of stage combat and are at least 2 mm in thickness. The hilt guard and pommel are crafted from steel and sword is finished with a tight leather wrap over its wooden grip. The blade tang has a robust peen over the pommel to give it a securely fastened overall construction. It comes with a wood-core scabbard which is bound in leather and paired with a leather frog which is attached to the scabbard with a pair of adjustable metal buckles and leather straps. It can be removed if desired.

This is a beautiful sword! I was curious how it would look and feel in real life since it’s a short sword, but it ended up being above my expectations. It looks like a weapon that came straight out of the medieval period, and the quality is superb. The scabbard is high quality leather and the sword itself is perfectly crafted. If I ever wanted a second short sword I’d have a hard time not ordering another one of these!

I was genuinely surprised by this sword! This is my second Deepeeka sword, and with its solid peened construction, it’s hard to beat the value for the price. My biggest concern before purchasing was the leather-wrapped grip, but it turned out to be exceptionally tight and secure, with no signs of looseness.

When struck, the blade produces a clear ring much like my Balaur Arms Templar Sword, which further speaks to the quality and tightness of the construction. Everything feels solid and well assembled, giving the sword a level of confidence and durability that exceeded my expectations. I will also note that the sword’s maneuverability is also amazing. The shorter blade gives you more control over your swings.

It is a Stage Combat sword so it is blunt, however that can be remedied. for $140 it’s an awesome piece for any collector!
