Overview

The Sword Excalibur

Excalibur - the very name rings like struck steel on literary myth and time-worn legend. Windlass Steelcrafts has taken the image and ideal of this most famous of swords to create a suitably epic and functional sword that looks like it could have come from the stories themselves.

The blade is tempered high carbon steel which has been mounted into a hilt of antique-finished metal. The crossguard has been fashioned in the likeness of the blooming shoots of flowering springtime plants- an allusion to the hope of the ideal Kingdom of Camelot. The center of the crossguard bears Kingly heraldry with three crowned shields surmounted by dragons rampant. The wood grip has been carefully bound in fitted, midnight-blue leather and textured with skillfully-laid risers beneath the leather and the pommel sits atop the sword in a form akin to a regal crown. The companion scabbard for the sword is crafted from wood which is overlaid in matching leather and completed with antiqued metal fittings. Despite its imposing scale, this sword is surprisingly lightweight and easy to wield in a two-handed grip.

First purchase I just received this blade today, and I have to say, it looks even better in person. The craftsmanship it’s top notch for the price. I even got the sharpening service from KOA and was not disappointed. The balance point is about 2 inches (5 centimeters) from the guard, which given the style of blade is pretty good, it gives you a lot of control. It doesn’t have a smudge fit in the scabbard, so do be weary. It will slide right out. The fittings do add some unnecessary weight to this, but with the style, it’s definitely worth the trade off. All in all, I definitely recommend it.
